OUR LOVE STORY
as told by both of us

FIRST STEPS
as told by Patrick
It all started with a school picture. Jenn spotted it at her cousin Kevin’s home and asked who I was. Kevin, my best friend and wrestling teammate, decided to play matchmaker and arranged for us to meet. Fittingly, our first encounter took place at a wrestling meet during our senior year. I was working the scoring table, and when Jenn walked over and introduced herself, I was too shy and struck to do anything more than stare at her and weakly mumble my name. I spent the next couple minutes averting my eyes, sweating, and internally screaming at myself to say something suave. I did not succeed. Despite that awkward first impression, I managed to regain my composure and get her phone number. We spent the rest of the year texting and getting to know each other. We shared all the classic dates like hanging out at the mall, going to the movies, seeing an Angels game, and playing mini-golf. We had a lot of fun together, but as college approached, we had a big decision to make. Our last date of the summer was ice skating at Jen’s home rink, where I asked her to take a leap. I was leaving the next day for basic training in Colorado, but I wasn’t ready for our time together to be over, so I asked if she would take the plunge and try out a long distance relationship. That’s a big commitment, especially for teenagers! But she agreed(!) and we decided to try it until Thanksgiving of 2013. I was thrilled, and determined to make long distance work! (I also didn't understand the difference between dating and making a relationship "facebook official" so I added her as my girlfriend on facebook before she even made it home. But, I guess she really did like me because she accepted!
THE LONG-DISTANCE YEARS
as told by Jennifer
Over the next four years our love grew into something more serious and dedicated then a quick summer romance and a promise. To stay in touch we used Oovoo (the Air Force Academy Internet did not allow Facetime) to video chat almost every day and we made great effort to see each other in person as much as possible. My first trip to Colorado was in September of 2013 as Patrick’s date to the Air Force Ball, and Patrick came home every holiday break to spend time with my family and me. In the summer of 2015, we took our first of many road trips together to drive Patrick’s car from California to Colorado. This trip also began our quest to visit every national park, as we passed through Arches in Utah. We made countless cherished memories over the college years, from Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, to Disneyland, and the Denver Aquarium. After we graduated from college, the Air Force sent Patrick to Mississippi. This move gave our relationship the chance to grow beyond the “what ifs” of a long-distance college romance and into something real—a partnership strengthened by being there for each other through the everyday ups and downs of life.
FINALLY TOGETHER
as told by Patrick
In Mississippi, we were finally able to reunite and date without worrying about slow Internet connections or time zones. While I lived on base for pilot training, Jenn got an apartment in Columbus and began school to become an EMT, and we were finally able to see each other on the weekends and have real, in-person dinner dates. Within three days of arriving in Mississippi, we also made our first major joint purchase by adopting a gentle, shy puppy named Charlie! But as many of you know, Jen’s love for animals cannot be limited to one dog, and over our nearly six years in the South, she personally rescued and rehomed 19 strays! We made lots of friends in Mississippi, and in 2019 I got orders to stay as an instructor, allowing us to put down even deeper roots. We spent almost six months in a rented home in San Antonio while I attended instructor school, and upon returning to Mississippi we decided to upgrade to a house since Charlie had become spoiled and used to having a backyard. Little did we know that the house came with a bonus: a mean, scrappy 12-year old blue heeler named Mollie that lived in the driveway and terrorized anyone who walked by our new home. For over a year, every morning, Jenn patiently tossed dozens of McDonald’s breakfast sausage patties to Mollie, gradually earning her trust. Little by little, Jenn bridged the gap, until Mollie, once untouchable, became the incredibly sweet, quiet dog many of you know today. As COVID hit in 2020, we made the best of the situation and spent our free time on road trips, national parks, and all sorts of outdoor adventures. Our two favorite weekend trips were Bear Creek, Alabama - where we would canoe with the dogs- and Hot Springs, Arkansas- our most frequented national park, and the only one where we have hiked every inch of every trail. On one special trip to Hot Springs, as we stood over our favorite mountain vista, I dropped to one knee, pulled a small box from my pocket and proposed. The happiest moment of my life was hearing Jen say “yes.”
With our engagement official, we naturally hopped in the car to celebrate with family. We affectionately dubbed this road trip the "Engagement Tour," traveling from Hot Springs, AR, to Chicago, IL, to visit my sister Jacqueline and her then-boyfriend, now-husband Peter. From there, we continued on to Waconia, MN, to see our Minnesota family and my Grandmother, Rosemary. We began the long process of planning our wedding. I worked tirelessly to complete my clinical hours for paramedic school, eager to dive into wedding planning—though I had no idea just how long that process would actually take. Soon after Patrick proposed, he received new orders that would take us to Washington state, but not before four months of training in Oklahoma. During that time, I prepared for our move alone. With no fixed home base, we tried to see the situation positively. We had so many places that held special meaning for us—California, Colorado, Mississippi, Texas, Arkansas—and with big life changes on the horizon, we eventually found a place in Texas near where we had lived before. However, more complications arose, and our plans fell through. So, we decided to put wedding planning on hold until we had a permanent home again. We finally arrived in Spokane in early 2023 and spent the next year settling in and exploring our new surroundings. Now that this place truly feels like home, we’re thrilled to share it with you and make you a part of the next chapter in our story. Your support and love throughout this journey have made it all the more special. Though it took longer than any of us expected to reach this day, it’s been a beautiful journey—and you have to admit, we sure did build up the anticipation! ;)

Getting There...
The bus to St. John's Cathedral will pick up guests outside the Coeur d'Alene Resort at 12:00 PM. (We apologize for the inconvenience, but there will be no other pickup or drop-off points—just from the resort to the cathedral and back.)
The drive is a scenic 35 minutes, with beautiful pine-covered hills on either side, giving you a true feel of the Pacific Northwest.
For those of you with rental cars:
If you prefer to drive yourselves to the ceremony instead of taking the bus, please park in the church lot at the corner of S Cowley St and E 13th Ave, one block south of the cathedral. (For those who are directionally challenged, like the bride, this means turning left at the Mexican restaurant and then left again into the empty lot, just one block from the church.)
Any delays in bus pickup or in transport time due to accidents or traffic will be communicated via text to the numbers provided in your RSVP.
Thank you for joining us at our home church!
